Style of the Month – Lily Collins

We’re always looking out for a fresh face, especially one with a certain taste level, to add to our roster of stylish stars. Today’s Girl of the Month, Lily Collins, is an ideal example of what we’re perpetually seeking. The multi-tasking young lady—more on that later—has an independent, wholly personal, and quite thoughtful way of putting herself together and is wise beyond her years (fashion-wise we mean!).

Collins took time away from her busy life of studies (she’s a Broadcast Journalism student at USC) and hosting duties (she’s the new pop culture correspondent for Nickelodeon) to chat with us about her style icons, must-visit stores, and where she finds her favorite accessories. She also walked us through each of her above outfits and gave us the details on every look.

While many up-and-coming young ladies totally depend on stylists and only wear borrowed clothes for events, Collins dresses herself. The London-born, LA-raised budding journalist primarily sticks to jewel tones (“I’m really fair, so pale colors wash me out”) and nods to her English roots via slightly prim (by Hollywood standards, anyway) silhouettes.

Aside from her smart color choices and demure, yet sophisticated outfits, we also admire how Collins always mixes price points. She’s wholly unconcerned with the pedigree of a particular shoe or skirt—mall brands to major designers are all welcomed—just as long as is pleases her fancy. For example, at a book signing party for Vogue’s Hamish Bowles, Collins wore a navy Oscar de la Renta dress with sandals from Walk, an inexpensive UK-based shoe company, and arrived in some outlandish (for her) Fendi sunglasses. She’s also a major vintage sleuth and scours the local LA flea markets and vintage expos for choice finds, like her fantastic crocodile-embossed clutch. In short, Collins has thoughtful, refined, and age-appropriate personal style and is definitely one to watch. —JESSICA AMENTO
